Adventures in Pole Dancing

I took a pole dancing class a couple weeks back.  It was for my sister-in-laws bachelorette party.  OMG.  I’m so glad I went. It was so much fun.  Seriously – I can check this one off the bucket list.

Flirty Girl Fitness is an amazing facility in downtown Toronto where you can learn to pole dance, box, dance on a bar coyote ugly style, etc…  This place is a real gym (albeit small) for women.  I loved how pink it was.

Everyone walking out of this gym was in tip top shape.  The women looked amazing.  I can now see why after taking a 2 hour class.

Pole dancing is not easy.  The instructor makes it look effortless.  But so much upper body strength is required.  Luckily, I had the strength.  I could do almost every move with the exception of 2.  Yes – I could do the moves but by no means did I look pretty.

The Husband joked later that night that he wanted me to show him what I learned. Firstly, I need a pole in the basement to show off my pathetic moves, and secondly, I need WAY more practice.

I was so exhausted at the end of the class, I could barely walk to the subway.  For the next 2 days my body was so SORE.  Again, it was all worth it.  I did get some nasty bruises along the way, again WORTH IT.

I think every woman needs to step outside the box and try something new.  It’s not like I plan on making a career out of pole dancing (although some do), but it’s fun to workout and challenge your body in ways you didn’t think possible.  If all else fails, just go for a good laugh….because…laugh you will.

I’ve included some photos from the day as well as a before and after shot of me.
