Friday Favourites: Dexter

Happy Friday. Let’s talk TV on today’s favourites. Are you watching season 7 of Dexter? If so, keep reading. If you are not current with the seasons, turn away. There are spoilers ahead.

Season 7 premiered at the end of September. And much to my delight, it is so much better than the previous seasons. Dexter was amazing for the first few seasons and then it became all too formulaic. Every episode dealt with Dexter listening to his “dark passenger” and resulted in him killing someone.

The last season ended with Deb (Dexter’s sister) discovering Dexter’s evil side. The latest season starts where the last one left off.

So far I’m so happy with how this season is shaping up. Jennifer Carpenter (Deb) has some great material to play off. It gives her character some real purpose. Not only is she discovering the truth about her beloved brother, but she’s also coming to terms with the fact that she’s been a terrible detective.

We get to see Dexter’s life through Deb’s eyes and not just his dead father’s. So many questions will hopefully be answered this season.

Will Dexter finally see himself as a killer and not excuse his behaviour by claiming he lives life by “code”?

Will Dexter finally face consequences for all his killings?

Will this be the end of Dexter?

Will Deb be the one to take him down?

The Sunday TV line up this year is crazy. There are so MANY great shows to compete with. I’m pleased with season 7 so far. This one is definitely worth the watch. It feels like a breath of fresh air in the writing. I love the new direction the show is taking. There’s more for the actors to play with. Michael C Hall is as brilliant as always (see Six Feet Under).

If you haven’t tuned in yet, I recommend the new season. PVR it if you have to. It’s feeling refreshed and reenergized. Let’s hope they keep the momentum going.

Enjoy your weekend!

Simply Yours,

PS – Did you know Michael C Hall used to be married in real life to his sister (played by Jennifer Carpenter) on TV? Just some fun trivia to keep in your back pocket. Who knows what new Trivial Pursuit questions will be thrown your way.
