I‘m a synchronized swimmer. My childhood girlfriends and I re-joined forces back in 2003-2004 and started swimming together again. It’s been awesome.
We’ve travelled to Edmonton together to compete in the World Masters Games where we took home the gold medal. We also went to Australia to compete in the FINA Masters Games where we won bronze.
The last couple of years have been a real crap-shoot. Our lives are getting so busy between work, family commitments and kids, practices have not been productive and attendance has been so low.
I was really discouraged. I felt like our team was falling apart. This is my activity away from the family where I get to connect with great friends. The idea of not swimming anymore really makes me sad. More importantly, not swimming with my crew.
A meeting took place between us girls and we all agreed we LOVE swimming and seeing each once a week. No one wants to give it up. We decided we needed a big goal to shoot for and a better practice time. I guess 7am on Sunday morning was just not working out
So, we are working with the synchro club trying to co-ordinate a better swim schedule. We’re also re-choreographing our routine from scratch. Our current routine is the soccer/football theme. We did not copy the Olympic team We are aiming to complete and compete with a brand new routine in the 2014 FINA Masters Games taking place in Montreal.
No we’re not Olympic contenders we’re just a bunch of gals who love to gab, swim and live the dream. Fingers crossed the schedule gets finalized soon so we can get our asses back in the pool and get in shape for what’s ahead.
