Summer Milestones

This has been THE summer of milestones for the Angels – especially Angel # 1. I am amazed at how much she has accomplished this summer.

Angel # 1 was determined very early on in the summer (may have even been spring) that she was going to master a cartwheel. She must have practiced them for hours in our house – over and over. [She's a lot like the Husband. Once she gets something in her head, she must master it until it's perfect.] Needless to say, I was never able to perform a cartwheel – no joke. This summer up at the cottage Angel # 1 was egging me on, “Come on mom, I can do cartwheel – try one”. Guess what? I.DID.IT. It may not look pretty – but I did my very first cartwheel.

Angel # 1 learned to kayak, stand-up paddle board and fish this summer with a real rod. The first time out she actually caught a fish. Naturally she wouldn’t touch it – but still a great accomplishment. Angel # 2 also caught a fish – she, however, was more concerned that her sister’s fish was bigger. Competition never ends between these two!

Angel # 1 also practiced hitting balls with a bat while daddy slow-pitched to her. She’s a real slugger.

I was sitting on the deck thinking about this summer, thinking back to when I was a kid. I think one of the most amazing things about being a parent, is that you get to relive your childhood experiences through your children. When I watched Angel # 1 swim out to the trampoline with no lifejacket on and jump into the water, I got excited for her.

I was there cheering her on throughout all of these accomplishments this summer. She was also cheering me on when I did my cartwheel – don’t worry – I won’t be joining the Olympic team anytime soon :)

Hard to believe it’s back to school already. Another school year begins – with new friendships formed, new heartaches and many more accomplishments to come…

Watching your kids grow up is really bitter-sweet. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I wish time would stop. I love the stage our family is at right now – LOVE IT. I’d love to freeze time to hold on to it just a little while longer.

Oh Vanessa,
I’m tearing up, looking forward to all thoose milestones, but also wishing to freeze time/rewind. Was just staring at my munchkin sleeping, hard to believe I’ve been a mommy for 7 months. I feel like she was born yesterday!

Aren’t they amazing? They both have a wonderful inner drive to get good at things. You’re so right about how parents reflect back on their own childhood when watching their own kids learn.
