Friday Favourites: Delirium

Happy Friday! What is happening to me? Two book reviews in one week. It’s all good – quality TV starts back up next week so my reading will likely be put on hold for awhile :)

Here is today’s favourite. The last novel I finished reading was called Delirium written by Lauren Oliver. What can I tell you? It’s another fantastic young adult read. It truly is a real page turner.

Following the success of The Hunger Games, Delirium is another wonderful trilogy set in a dystopian world. It explores themes of love and affection, society and mental illness.

The story follows Lena a young girl who falls in love in a society where love is forbidden. In fact, being in love is considered as having a disease. The book starts off 95 days before Lena is scheduled to have a medical procedure (aka lobotomy). This procedure is done to ensure you never fall in love or show emotion.

Lena takes us on a thrilling and emotional ride. We meet her family, friends and the man she falls for.

This book is beautifully written. It is unpredictable with great plot twists. I couldn’t put the book down. I can’t wait to read the next one, Pandemonium.

Enjoy the weekend!
