Like I’ve mentioned before, I watch a lot of TV but I also read. Novel concept – right!?!
Before going on vacation I was determined to finish a book called The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. For some reason, I found this book painfully slow to get through. It took me weeks to read. I have this thing that when I start a book I must finish it. So I continued to pick up the book and read it to the end. But I got to say…I struggled.
All the reviews I read prior to reading the book said this book was incredible. So I thought – sure why not. Well – bad call. Don’t get me wrong. The book is beautifully descriptive…almost too descriptive. I found myself getting lost in the detail.
The novel centres around a circus that opens at sunset and closes at sunrise. It is set in the 1800′s and the early 1900′s. The story is told through multiple characters and perspectives across different time eras. Call me slow – but skipping through time eras made it difficult to follow.
I need to care about the characters in a novel. This one had far too many of them and I felt very detached from it all.
Have you read the book? What did you think? Apparently, Hollywood is in. The Night Circus has been acquired by Summit Entertainment and will be made into a movie.
Didn’t see that one coming.
