So excited guys! My kitchen reno is finally complete. (NOTE: I had to post this blog entry today because the Husband had to go on Facebook yesterday to tease about our renovations. He always has to have the first and last say )
I can’t wait to share the pictures. This project has been 4 years in the making. We bought our bigger house back in 2008. It was a newer build in my very old neighbourhood. Unfortunately, we were not the original owners…so we didn’t get to pick any of the features throughout the house.
The kitchen / great room has a great layout. The appliances are perfectly situated for easy cooking and manoeuvring. The kitchen is spacious and has plenty of storage.
I just really didn’t like the cabinet colour, the kitchen faucet, the tiled backsplash or the countertops. It was far too expensive to change the countertops…and okay, they are not that bad.
So we started making changes to this kitchen in stages. First, I had my handy-man husband change the faucet. And I, well I got the easy part, I changed all the hardware (knobs) to glass. I love how they sparkle. Next, I had the Husband change the backsplash. A couple summers ago, the Husband and I sanded down the island to bare wood and stained it. This really took all summer. BIG ASS JOB…huge mess…MAJOR PAYOFF!!
Last summer we were in France, so we did zilch. So I begged and begged the Husband to help me paint the remaining kitchen cabinets. He agreed – so together we’ve finally completed the kitchen.
Disclosure: The Husband did most of the hard work. I just did some minor painting and sanding. I’m really happy with my new two-toned kitchen. With a lot of elbow grease, we’ve managed to transform what I originally felt was a blah kitchen into my new dream one!
