Friday Favourites: Divergent

Happy Friday all! Another week – another to go…

I’ve been on a bit of reading binge these days. Have you heard of Divergent? It’s written by Veronica Roth. Apparently, this is one of 3 books written by her. Believe it or not, Roth was only 22 when she wrote this book. Twenty-two – incredible. She’s such a young talent.

The story is a dystopian thriller written for young adults. Oops – don’t I fall under that category? I don’t care. I LOVED the book. It takes place in a futuristic Chicago. Beatrice “Tris” is the main character. She is 16 years old. She’s flawed, not pretty and trying to fit in.

Chicago is split up into factions. Every citizen must choose which faction they wish to belong. The story begins with Beatrice choosing her faction and the requirements and conditions she must adhere to so she can belong.

This book is a modern take on normal struggles we all face with social integration. It raises morally, ethical and political questions. Comparisons can be drawn between the Hunger Games trilogy and this series. The two main characters are strong teenage girls struggling to survive in a tough environment.

I finished the book super fast. Last Tuesday, the second book, Insurgent, came out. I MUST get my hands on a copy.

I’m really digging the dystopia setting storylines – something new and different. I’m also really loving trilogies where you long for the next book.

Are you reading Divergent? Do you want to? I’m sure a movie will be made as well with this one!

Enjoy your weekend! Shout out to all the moms out there. Hope you are pampered. Happy M – Day!!

Simply Yours,
