It’s Friday – Yeah! Friday is by far my favourite day of the week. It means 2 days off to rest and play. Speaking of play, have you seen Smash?
It’s a new TV show produced by Steven Spielberg. The show generated so much buzz before it aired at the beginning of February, I had to tune in and check it out.
The show centres around a Broadway musical and all that’s involved in putting on a production. This season focuses on a Marilyn Monroe musical. So far the episodes have been dealing with casting the lead for the play and the private lives of the individuals who make the play come alive (from production hands to lead characters).
I really want to love this show. I do. I’m a huge Broadway lover. I adore musicals. I’m sick of Glee so I welcomed a new musical-esque show.
I’m 2 episodes in and I’m NOT feeling the show. Yes – there is music and original music too. There is a perfect balance of not too much music and a decent storyline. There’s dancing too. There’s a great ensemble cast (Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston). The singing is fantastic. So I’m not entirely sure why I’m not feeling the show. The storylines are developing rather fast and then again not fast enough. I can’t really put my finger on the exact reason I’m not hooked right from the start.
I’m already invested in so many other great shows, I’m not sure I want to keep watching this one. It may just be that I need to watch a couple more episodes to really love it.
What do you think? Should I hang in or call it a day? Are you watching Smash? If so, what are your thoughts?
