Before we left for France I had it in my mind that I would buy new linens and dishes when I got home. Click here for a refresher.
I have had the same old tired everyday dishes for years. In fact, some of my dishes were from The Husband’s childhood. That’s how old they were. They didn’t match and were starting to chip. So I packaged everything up and placed it on my front lawn for the taking. You know what? The stuff was gone in less than 40 minutes.
I bought all new – all white everyday dishes from Crate & Barrel. I got a steal on them. They were on sale. So happy. I’m also loving the stem-less wine glasses (it’s all about the glass). I picked up 8 of them from Crate & Barrel and have been using them not only for wine but as water glasses. Double duty!
After our flood, I was cleaning out one of our storage closets in the basement. I discovered a box of green bowls my aunt Mich had bought for me years ago. I really only pull them out for big family dinners, like at Christmas or Easter. And, my hosting duties seem to be one year on, one year off. In memory of Mich, I’ve decided to start using these bowls daily. I think they pair nicely with the rest of the white dishes.
In France I was dreaming about coming home to sleep in my awesome bed. I missed it very much. I love my sleep. I need to be well rested in order to function. I’ve had the same bed linens for over 8 years. Truth be told, I was really bored with my bed. So I started researching bedding online. I scoured Pottery Barn’s website, along with The Bay, Martha Stewart’s line…I even went to Home Sense (love that store) to check out their bedding. I was either finding stuff that was too expensive or not my taste.
I finally decided to check out Ikea. Guess what? I re-did my entire bed, we’re talking duvet filler, covers, throw pillows, brand new sheets, etc…for a fraction of what I would have paid had I gone with Pottery Barn.
So do you like? I’m loving the ALL WHITE bed. It’s all about layering the different textures.
The Husband gets no value from these purchases whatsoever. And, he kindly reminded me that we need to curb our spending. Okay babe, I’m done….for now!
I’m going back to having less and doing more.
