A couple of days ago I got a phone call from the Children’s Wish Foundation. They said they would be in my area. They were looking for donations. Anything from clothing, household items to kids toys. And, they would come by my house on Monday anytime between 8am – 8pm to pick it up.
After our liquid disaster, I thought it was the perfect time to go through the kids’ toys and purge. I took the time to sort through all the toys, being careful to not give away anything the Angels still love. Once we determined what to keep, I separated the remaining toys into 3 piles. One pile – for charity, one pile – for sale and one pile – for garbage. I don’t know about you but toy pieces go missing, or break…I always seem to have stuff to throw away. And, I always manage to collect crap (bits of paper, etc..)
We always keep one pile for sale. I let the Angels decide what they want to sell. I then place it up on Craigslist or sell it at the North Toronto MOMS Great Kids Stuff Sale. This gives the Angels some money to put towards purchasing new toys. Sometimes I have to be careful though – Angel # 1 is ready to sell EVERYTHING.
Anyhow, back to donations…so I put together all the items (kids clothing / toys) in bags and labelled them. I had them at the end of my driveway before 8 am.
I woke up on Tuesday morning and the stuff was still there. With the exception of a baby stroller – someone happily came back and took that. Ugh – this is the second time I’ve had this problem with a donations pick-up. Frustrated, much!?!
I have FREE stuff sitting at the end of my driveway if you are in the area. Help yourself! [Update: Put Free sign up and the stuff was gone in less than 20 mins.]
Have you ever had this problem? How do you sort through your kids’ stuff?
I’m off to help the Angels set up a lemonade stand. They’ve decided we need to raise some money [because of our basement flood] to purchase new toys [Update: The Angels sat out all morning and made close to $20.]
